Germany – Sweet dreams
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009Germany – Arbeit Macht Frei
Monday, July 6th, 2009The gate outside Dachau reads “Arbeit Macht Frei” or Work Brings Freedom. Although no prisoners entered throught this gate, it is symbolic of the tragic and ironic struggle of all those were imprisoned behind its walls. The memorial only stands today because of the tireless effort of it’s survivors, thousands walk through it everyday so that we will not forget.
Germany – The gas chamber of Dachau
Sunday, May 24th, 2009A chill went down my spine when I walked into the Dachau concentration camp near Munich. The words “Arbiet Macht Frei” or in English “Work brings freedom” are written on the entrance gate to the camp. No one knows how many souls perished in the gas chamber, but throughout the years many of the fixtures in the chamber have been stolen by visitors. It’s a place that does not make much sense at any point in time.
